Traditionally, the English department has taken charge of the school’s English newspaper. This year was no exception. However, stepping into this role came with a fundamental question: What kind of newspaper should we create?
In an age overflowing with information, simply producing another publication felt insufficient. We didn’t want to create something that would be forgotten as quickly as it was published. Instead, we began to rethink not just how we deliver news, but why we create it in the first place.
The turning point came from an unexpected idea. After seeing a travel blog-style website I had created for a class orientation, our principal suggested publishing school news in a similar online format. That moment sparked a realization: by moving beyond print and embracing an online platform, we could create something more accessible, more immediate, and more connected to our readers.
With this vision in mind, we gathered 15 students—each with different motivations and aspirations, yet all united by one thing: a willingness to take on a challenge. Together, we set out to build something entirely new.
Our next question was simple, yet profound: Why do we do what we do?
We did not want to publish articles merely because it was expected of us, nor because it had always been done that way. Instead, we chose to confront the deeper purpose behind our work.
In a world already saturated with content, what meaning is there in adding more? Why write in English when Korean would be easier? And even if no one reads what we write, does it still matter?
These were not easy questions. But they led us to a meaningful answer.
Our answer was this: our own perspective.
As students living in 2026 at Ohyeon High School, we see the world through a unique lens. Capturing our thoughts, our experiences, and our voices in this moment in time holds value in itself. Even in a sea of endless information, authenticity still matters.
OHS Global Press is not just a collection of articles. It is a record of who we are, how we think, and how we choose to see the world—right here, right now.
Looking ahead, we plan to publish OHS Global Press on a monthly basis, with each issue centered around a different theme. For this inaugural issue, our editor-in-chief, Seongheon Ryu, has chosen the theme “Our Future.”
Under this theme, we bring together stories that reflect our perspectives—within our school, beyond it, across Jeju, Korea, and even further into the world.
We invite you to explore these stories through our eyes, and to join us in imagining the future we are about to create.
This is only the beginning.
