A student stands on the school playground, his head bowed as a senior scolds him loudly. To any observer, it looks like just another rule-breaking moment—a careless boy failing his duties. Little did anyone know that this same student would one day return to this very campus, not to be scolded, but to lead.

Mischievous young Seung-su
The mischievous Seung-su who loved soccer more than anything during his younger days.

The playground at Ohyun High School remains tense in his memory. A senior student criticizes him for neglecting his responsibilities. Just a day earlier, he had chosen a soccer game over his student council duties. Even after writing “lunch dress code enforcement” on the back of his hand as a reminder, the lure of the game was too strong. That student, who once seemed distracted and unreliable, is now Mr. Han Seung-su, a senior homeroom teacher at Ohyun High School.

Back then, his life was a storm of silent struggles. Although he was a high-achieving student, the crushing weight of expectations and conflicts with his parents took their toll. The endless hours of night self-study felt like a cage, and over time, he began to feel lost.

Eventually, his frustration led him to run away from home. He struggled to understand who he was and what he wanted to become. He spent cold nights at bus stops and underground parking lots, while teachers and police officers searched for him.

“At that time, I felt completely lost. I didn't know where I was going, but I knew I couldn't stay where I was.”

Ultimately, he chose to return. While his teachers had a positive influence, the turning point was internal. By falling from a top student to the lowest-ranked in his school, he experienced a dramatic shift in how society treats those who "fail." This painful reflection led to a new dream: becoming a teacher who truly understands students who feel invisible. Today, Mr. Han is known for his strong leadership and clear personal values, which are evident in his creative homeroom projects.

Life as a high school senior in Korea is undeniably a battlefield of pressure and competition. However, Mr. Han’s journey proves that moments of failure do not define our entire lives. If a student who once ran away can become a guiding light for others, then failure is not the end—but the beginning of a new path.
